Dewy skin finishes are most popular in spring/summer as they should have a glowing, moist, soft and lustrous application. To create a dewy finish you shouldn't apply so much product so that you can see the texture of the skin underneath. The way to apply this type of base would be to use a fluffy brush to work less product onto the face.It is important to prep the skin by cleansing toning and ensuring the skin is moisturized. When creating a dewy finish it is important to ensure that the skin doesn't look oily - if needed you can powder part of the face. It is also important to think about primers that can also be used to create a dewy finish. For a dewy finish it is important to choose a base that is moisturizing to the skin.
Types of base that can be used to create a dewy finish:
Cream foundations - medium coverage with a thick and glossy texture.
Tinted gels - gives a very lights sheer cover.
BB creams - light coverage with a sheer finish.
Liquid (oil based) - a light fine coverage with a soft finish.

Matte
Matte finishes are most popular in autumn/winter and is great for red tones and bold lips to add contrast to the face. A matte finish should have no shine to the skin creating a more natural and clean look. To create a matte finish it is important to use a matte primer and foundation with a light powdering of the face. Before applying any product for a matte finish it is important that the skin is exfoliated (if needed) and completely clean by cleaning toning and moisturizing. If the skin is dry you should ensure it is well moisturized to avoid the skin from looking like it is caked with makeup. With a matte finish pores should not be visible. It can be helpful to mix the foundation with the primer before applying it to the face.
Types of base that can be used to create a matte finish:
Liquid (oil based) - a light fine coverage but can be build up for a heavier coverage and made matte with powder.
2 in 1 foundation and powder products - give a medium to heavy coverage creating a dry texture.
Powder products - medium to heavy coverage creating a dry texture.
